90’s JDM Inspired 240sx (Part I)

It must be something about 240’s, that once they get a hold of you, you can’t leave. Or maybe they are just cool? I don’t know, they don’t really do anything for me personally, but I do know that their following is huge. I have literally seen people ignore Z06’s and Viper’s and freak over over a ratty 240sx with a LS swap. But that isn’t this car, far from it.

This car is my good buddy Andy Cook’s second car, his “street car”. His first and “main” car is currently a heavily modified 240sx drift car that he has gone through extensively. Every bolt has been turned or changed. It is currently a turbo KA24 car with bold “Aero” (I still can’t believe that the community calls it AERO and not just a body kit that it is. But I guess every hobby/group has their own slang) and is aggressively low with a set of 3-piece Work wheels. To say that it draws attention would be an understatement.

This car however is going to be quite a change from the loud and obnoxious, in your face that the drift car is. The theme for this is simple; OEM Plus.

Almost every single part that goes onto the car is either going to be a Nissan factory option (mostly JDM options) or 90’s period correct nostalgia pieces. The goal is to make the car look as if it came from Nissan with some sort of special package, like it would have been possible at the time.

He picked up this bone stock 240sx to begin the build. I’m not going to go into too many details right now, but I wanted to grab a few shots of the car before all of the changes are made to it. We went out to a location a short way from his home and I had the perfect overcast weather for some slightly moody images.

The sun was in and out of the clouds during the shoot. Made for some cool hard shadow photos.

I still have a thing for pop-ups, originating during my days in the DSM world.

Currently completely stock. The end goal will be to look like the car could have come from Nissan in the final configuration.

Interior is stock right now, and will remain similar but will include some JDM trinkets from Japan. With a contact living in Japan, Cook has the ability to be selective and only buy the highest quality and rarest items that fits his style.

Obligatory basic Instagram photo.

Almost looks strobed here.

It will be a while before this car is finished. The drift car still needs some work, the garage/workshop needs to be completed, and some house chores require attention. But during the little but of free time that us adults have, work will begin. And without question, I will be there to document it. – Andrew
